Mt. Sinai Carpet
Description
This admirable rug portrays key events in Jewish history with three niches framing a view as if from a porch or multiple windows. The scenes include the crown of the Torah, the Tablets of the Law, the tamarisk tree planted by Abraham, Mount Sinai, and Herzl’s tree.
The carpet’s Art Nouveau columns, arches, and spandrels contrast with the strong color composition of the scenery. Each column features a Star of David at the base, reminiscent of a nineteenth-century Polish Sabbath candlestick. The barren desert background symbolizes the spiritual rebirth of the Jewish people.
A gift box with a sterling silver FJ button and card are included.
