Vined Kiddush Cup
Production by TAKI Silversmith
I found a version of this vintage Shabbat Kiddush Cup in a silversmith shop in Istanbul. We have used the same fabrication methods that were used a century ago when the cup was originally conceived.
The vessel is first turned on a lathe. The grape vine, cast separately, is then wrapped and soldered to the cup. This time held process is laborious and rare today, when most relief ornamentation on silver cups is simply pressure-stamped into the piece or electroplated. These cups, then, lack the gravitas of our mighty cup.
